The energy radiated from the sun to the Earth is transmitted in the form of electromagnetic waves. Of this, 49% of the energy that can penetrate the atmosphere consists of a portion of ultraviolet rays and visible light, as well as a portion of infrared rays. In other words, the electromagnetic waves in this range do not warm the atmosphere.
